  National Diabetes Audit (NDA) 2013-15
The National Diabetes Audit is the largest audit in the world. This year, data for 2013/14 and 2014/15 was published simultaneously in January 2016. You can find the summary results below.
  1. Participation
Nationally, participation in the audit has fallen from 70% in 2012/13 to 57% in 2013/14 and 2014/15. Only 19 Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) out of 211 had 100% submission rates. I am pleased to say that all Berkshire West CCGs attained a 100% submission rate, as did our colleagues in Berkshire East CCGs. Thank you to BHFT for enabling this. The fact that we were able to do this says a lot about our organisational abilities.
  2. Care process completion

The eight care process (HbA1c, BP, Cholesterol, Creatinine, Urine ACR, Foot surveillance, BMI, smoking status) completion rates are simply measures of whether we are able to get people through the door and measure their various metrics. Berkshire West CCGs showed that whilst we are all doing satisfactorily with Type 1 diabetes, we are struggling with Type 2, with the proportions dipping in 2014/15. You can find a breakdown by practice on the diabetes website: In each CCG, some practices perform outstandingly well. It can be done!

  3. Attainment of three treatment targets

The three key metrics and their targets are:

  • HbA1c ≤58mmol/mol
  • BP ≤140/80 and
  • Cholesterol ≤5mmol/l.
The audit shows the proportion of patients who achieved all these. Three CCGs improved attainment of all three metrics with Type 1, but again, struggling with Type 2. You can find breakdown by practice on the diabetes website. In each CCG, some practices perform outstandingly well. You can print the results and summary presentation here.
