Glucometer Calibration Guidance

A recent question came up about calibration of glucometers used in primary care and CQC expectations. Many practice glucometers will not be used very often, so it is important that they are checked regularly.

Consensus guidelines suggest that if a practice uses the machine infrequently, it should be calibrated before each patient using the control solution provided by the manufacturer. Additionally, it would be sensible to do this weekly and maintain a dedicated logbook for this purpose. Many glucometer manufacturers will provide these books free of charge.

These guidelines have been shared by Aylesbury Vale/Chiltern CCG.
Paediatric Diabetes Pathway

Dr Jo Spinks, Consultant Paediatrician, has recently updated the pathway from primary to secondary care - available here. I have asked for it to go on DXS. It can also be access via our new website under “Pathways”.
